Vicki Glembocki, a graduate of our MFA program, has been named the English Department's outstanding young alumna for 2010, and will be honored at our annual awards ceremony in April.This is a kudo not only for Vicki, but for the MFA program. Each year an English Department graduate is chosen by the College of Liberal Arts for outstanding career achievements and leadership. The honoree is chosen from a distinguished list of nominees by our English Board of Visitors in consultation with the department and the College.
Vicki is the author of a memoir, The Second Nine Months: One Woman Tells the Real Truth About Becoming a Mom. Finally., published in hard cover last year and in soft this, and has written for many magazines, including Playboy, Reader's Digest, and Philadelphia. She has worked as an editor for several magazines, including Philadelphia where, until recently she was Articles Editor and currently is Writer at Large.
She wrote both her undergraduate honors thesis (published in Playboy) and her MFA thesis in the nonfiction genre under the guidance of associate professor of English, Toby Thompson.

The best part of this award? It's for "outstanding YOUNG alumna." As in, it's not for "outstanding almost forty, minivan-driving, suburban-mother-of-two alumna." Love that.
